Can you believe it’s November already? I am SO not ready for what is to come… I’ve been doing a lot of walking as of late, looking at our property, taking in the smells of fall, the crunching of leaves under foot, and enjoying simple outdoor pleasures while I have my chance.

Yesterday was a beautiful day. Sadly I spent most of it running around town getting groceries, going to an eye appointment, picking up Rosie after having her water pump replaced and new steer tires put on, then finally dropping off my wagon to be preloaded for my run on Saturday.

Luckily I did manage to scrimp some outdoor time for myself as well. These two hens seemed to be in unison yesterday with most everything they did. I had a good giggle more than once!

Chickens are the hardest workers I know, and some days I learn so much from them. I am sure their motto has to be “Work hard, but soak up the sun when it’s shining”…

The girls are still working on our old cucumbers that lay in a pile. Like I’ve said before, nothing goes to waste around here.

Squeaky Monroe chose the flower bed to take a nap in the sunshine. He raised his head just long enough to wonder what I was up to before going back to his kitty dreams.

I chased one of my hens around our grove for over an hour and nearly poked my eye out while trying to find where she is hiding my her eggs. Right now we have 3 of our new girls laying eggs in the barn where they are suppose to be laying…!

There are a few more that are laying outdoors and making them hard to find. So far Hubs has found a nest in my flower garden next to the house and I’ve found a nest under one of my rose bushes but I know darn well there are more! I found these yesterday, but suspect that the skunks and raccoons are having nice meals these days on what we don’t find.

This hen, once I started to look for her nest joined me in the search, as if she was going to help or maybe she just thought we were playing a game. She would run ahead of me and poke her head into the long grass that had bent over against the wind, as if she was telling me where the eggs were.
After getting my hopes up and chasing after her a handful of times I came to the conclusion that she was probably drawing me away from the nest rather than showing me anything- that or she was just mocking me and having a good laugh at my expense.

I have fallen in love with my Buff Orpingtons. They are so beautiful and calm. The above hen lets me pick her up and just sits in my arms while pet her, although yesterday she crapped all over me… and in some countries that is considered a good sign.
The only sign I got was shit! “MORE LAUNDRY”!
